The Summer League is very lucky to evolved from the early days of self-officiating, during which the bulk of the burden fell on Peter Lye. Others to have filled in are Phil Jones, George Aranyi, Paul Muollo, Paul Griffin, Jamie Milne, Michael Wray - and there were no doubt some others not listed.

Gary Oosterbaan was the first proper referee to offer his services and the pool of available officials has now grown to five. Our referees all provide their services voluntarily and it is a real sign of credibility for our competition to be so well served.

Match Referees

Summer League Debut
Barry Tasker 2008/09
Gary Oosterbaan 2005/06
Helen Mallon 2008/09
Murray Stevenson 2009/10
Simon Morris 2006/07

Barry Tasker

 Age  57
 Occupation Bodyworks Technician
 Accreditation FIFA Referee 1988-1997
First Official Match Wellington College v Porirua College 1978
Highest Level Australia v England, 1994, Sydney Football Stadium (plus many other internationals)
Favourite Moment My first appointment to the National League in 1984 and the Chatham Cup Final also in 1984 and too many others to write down!
Interests Watching football, golf, cooking, red wine
Embarrassing Moment Forgetting my red and yellow cards at an international fixture, (and only realising that I had forgotten them while we were lined up on the pitch for the national anthems)... (the Reserve Referee saved my bacon right on kick off time!)

Gary Oosterbaan

 Age  48
Occupation Manufacturing Manager – Kraus & Naimer Production Ltd
 Accreditation Level 1 - July 2004
First Official Match Cap 5 IBU v Lower Hutt - Wakefield 2004
 Highest Level AR Central League
Favourite Moment Refereeing young men / women who I have seen grow from the juniors
 Interests Improving things
Embarrassing Moment Forgetting to restart my watch and having a 55 minute half.

Helen Mallon

 Age  36
 Occupation Administration Manager
Accreditation Commenced 2006, Level 2 Wellington 2009; New Zealand Badge 2009
First Official Match Men’s Capital 1 as an Assistant Referee 2006
Highest Level Kelly Cup Final Waterside Karori v Marist Aug 09 & Men’s Seatoun First team Aug 09
Favourite Moment There are lots! Passing the dreaded fitness test, achieving my NZ Badge, having a bloke in a Capital 3 match I refereed in August tell me I was as good as some of the male referees.
Interests Football, the Nix, Cooking, the odd drop of pinot, music, shopping, my family and travelling.
Embarrassing Moment Actually there are lots of these too L Calling an offside when the attacker was in his own half of the pitch (duh), leaving my flags in the changing room when I had ARs on a women’s match (double duh), and others that I would be too embarrassed to mention!

Murray Stevenson

 Age  45
 Occupation Art Director/Graphic Designer
 Accreditation Level 1 Wellington 2008
First Official Match Capital 5, Richard Prouse No3
 Highest Level Champs Premier
Favourite Moment When a player in Capital 2 said I looked too young to be refereeing their game!
 Interests Golf, Skiing
Other Murray commented that he was going to add in ‘my highest match officiated on was the FA Cup in 2006!’ (But we all know that isn’t quite the truth.....)

Simon Morris

 Age  33
 Occupation IT Manager
 Accreditation Level 1 Wellington 2007
First Official Match Cap 2: Island Bay v Tawa 07/04/07
Highest Level Chatham Cup (Assistant Referee) & Women’s Central League(Assistant Referee)
Favourite Moment Running my first line at Shark Park for a Chatham Cup game - and calling a goal offside - nerve-wracking, but getting to officiate in NZ footballs most prestigious football competition is a great honour I think.
Interests Hibs, 'Nix, Heart of Midlothian losing, getting my mug on TV during Nix away games to Sydney!
Embarrassing Moment Misreading my watch (It wasn't a refs digital one!) during my first ever game and calling half time 7 minutes early
